Product Feature: Bee Venom Beauty Products

By now you know that I do my best to go the natural route in all areas of my life, and my beauty routine is no different. So when I began hearing about bee venom as a natural alternative to Botox and similar anti-aging therapies, I was intrigued, and of course wanted to learn more.

Apitherapy, or the use of bee products in medicinal healing, has been used for hundreds of years in the treatment of ailments such as arthritis, back pain, and rheumatism. But only relatively recently has bee venom been used in aesthetic skin treatments and beauty products.

The benefits of bee venom as a natural beauty alternative are centered around mellitin, an anti-inflammatory compound found in the venom. When one is stung by a bee, it is believed that this compound causes the body to direct blood towards the area, while stimulating the production of the naturally occurring chemicals collagen and elastin. Beauty products containing bee venom, in turn, seek to mimic this process, essentially tricking your skin into thinking that it has been stung, and therefore stimulating the production of collagen and elastin to smooth, lift, and tighten the skin.
