Natural Remedies: Homeopathic Medicine Kit

I try to use as many natural products as possible in all areas of my life, and medicines are no exception. Over the years, I have become aware of a number of great homeopathic alternatives to standard medications – I stock up on Boiron products for anything from the flu, to bloating, to the common cold, and for the little ones, I always have this kit from Hylands on hand.

My friend Shiva Rose has been a wonderful resource in this department, and she was kind enough to share some insight as well as some of her favorite go-tos for alternative remedies. XXJKE

SR: I have been using homeopathy since my first daughter was born seventeen years ago. Homeopathy is safe, has no side effects or allergic reactions, and is both inexpensive and effective. I find it works to treat so many issues ranging from colic for newborns to hyperactivity with older children.

Creating homeopathic and alternative remedy kits to have handy at home or for traveling can be so useful. You can follow the directions listed on each remedy, but in general, a few pellets are taken under the tongue three times a day.

Emergency Travel Kit

For traveling, I love to keep a few essentials ready to be packed for children’s needs:

For cough or croup: Kali Muriaticum

For fever: Ferrum Phosphoricum

For sudden rashes or to treat poison oak: Pulsatilla

For earaches or ear infections: Garlic Mullein Oil

*Garlic Mullein Oil isn’t homeopathic, but an herbal remedy that has been used by Native Americans for hundreds of years. This is a good treatment until one gets home to go see a doctor.

Newborn Kit

A great gift to give to a new mama-to-be is a homeopathic newborn kit. For the tablets, they can be crushed up and mixed with a tiny bit of water, then given to the little one orally as a paste.

For stomach gas, pain, abdominal bloating: Lycopodium

For teething: Chamomilla

For earache: Chamomilla and Belladonna

For eczema: Calendula cream and Florasone homeopathic cream (cortisone-free and very soothing)

*A bulb syringe is always good for emergencies, in cases where a baby gets so severe a cold that they cannot breathe out of their nose.
