The Jenni Kayne Ranch: Behind the Vision
April 11, 2022
If you’ve spent the past few weeks dreaming of days in Santa Ynez, well, let’s just say you’re not alone. With the Jenni Kayne Ranch finally making its debut, we have so much to share with you—starting with an overarching look at the property that we transformed with every detail in mind. Read on for plenty of insight into the vision and potential that we first saw on the Ranch, plus a peek at our design process. If this leaves you ready for more, then stay tuned for next week’s detailed room reveal where we share all the ins and outs of the great room—from paint shades to vintage furnishings.
The Potential
When we first encountered the Jenni Kayne Ranch, it was nothing like it is today. Walls were falling down, dust and dirt were everywhere, and the light and bright aesthetic we know and love was nowhere to be found. But we could see the untapped potential hidden behind the initial shock of it all. While others saw a dilapidated structure, we saw a home with great bones—think pitched ceilings, a classic ranch-style layout, and an entrancing view looking across acres of the Santa Ynez Valley. The hard part? Bringing it all to life.
Before construction even began, we distilled our aesthetic down to the essentials and focused on minimalist moments and ranch-inspired interiors that celebrated the scenery and our everlasting matra of California living.
"I envisioned a home where people would want to come together. The property showcases our Jenni Kayne Home collection and is a true embodiment of the entire brand rooted in an elevated, yet casual and familiar California lifestyle." – Jenni
The Process
The Jenni Kayne Ranch transformation certainly didn’t happen overnight. We took the structure down to the studs, tearing down walls and ripping up floors to completely reimagine the space in the manner we saw fit. We filled the sunken living room to form a great room that was cohesive and open, knocked down walls in the kitchen to form an inviting and breathable space, and reconfigured windows and rooms to ensure each space was cognizant of the view and brought in plenty of light.
Jenni was focused on creating a home that was warm and welcoming, which meant when it came to furnishing and finishing the space, we opted for neutral textiles, textural tones, and layered moments that balanced vintage with modernity. From one room to the next, the vision is clear: this is a space designed with California in mind and meant to inspire a life lived well.
