Gift List: Liv Perez on Making It Personal

December 5, 2023

We’re back with another iteration of Gift List—the series in which we ask some of the most thoughtful tastemakers we know to share the items they’re gifting this season. Up next? Style expert and podcast host Liv Perez is sharing her must-haves and must-gives while making the argument that it really is the thought that counts.

Gift List: Liv Perez on Making It Personal

Rip & Tan: What is your approach to giving truly memorable gifts?

Liv Perez: It’s all about the personal touch. I’ve received hand-written cards that have felt more personal than getting a gift at the top of my wishlist. Whether it’s something you know your recipient wants, or something based on a memory you two have, lean into those personal moments only you two know so that your gift feels representative of you as a person. And pro-tip: how you give the gift is equally as important as the gift itself!

Rip & Tan: What’s on your personal wishlist this year?

Liv Perez: I love a practical gift–something that will help me get through my everyday life. Maybe it’s a new camera lens or a custom notebook for 2024.

Rip & Tan: Gifting clothes and accessories can be tricky—what are your go-tos?

Liv Perez: I stay away from pieces that aren’t evergreen. I like to stick to the classics—like a perfect knit sweater or an earring you know the recipient will wear forever. I’m also a big fan of gifting things for the home—a cookbook, a throw, some great candles. It’s a warm feeling to know your recipient will have your gift in their home and use it often. I always say, don’t make it complicated! Think of the items you love to use in your everyday life and a way to make it personal. And if you’re truly stuck, a beautiful photo of the two of you in a vintage frame goes a really long way.

Rip & Tan: What are you most looking forward to this holiday season?

Liv Perez: Spending time with my family at home, indulging in some of our favorite traditions (I’m counting down the seconds until I get my hands on my mom’s infamous banana Oreo pie) and of course, wearing all my coziest holiday pieces.

From the Jenni Kayne Collection

Alpaca Basketweave Throw—I love a good throw, especially one that feels like a big hug. It’s a simple gift that will always get a lot of use!

Mini Leather Bucket Bag—A classic tote is always a good idea! A very practical gift that’s also so stylish.

Cable Half Zip—I personally have this sweater and it’s one of my favorites. I wear it weekly and know whoever gets it will love it as much as I do.

Shearling-Lined Moc Clog—As a self-proclaimed slipper hoarder, you can never have too many cozy shoes. They’re perfect for the holiday season.

Cedar Ceramic Candle—Not only does this candle smell amazing, but it’s also such a beautiful addition to any home space.

Other Curated Favorites

Completedworks Like Peas in a Pod II Earrings—This is one of my favorite jewelry brands because of how unique the pieces are. Something sparkly is always a special gift, especially when it feels one-of-a-kind.

Ferragamo Watch—A classic watch is always a beautiful gift, and I love this new collection from Ferragamo. Watches are always such a thoughtful gift because they’re something someone takes with them every day.

Ghia Totem Glasses—I’m quite obsessed with tableware and have an overflowing collection at my house, these glasses included.

Loro Piana Extra Bag—If you want to splurge on a gift for a loved one this season, this bag is it. It’s my favorite in my closet that has become my go-to daily wear.

Ulysse MM Notebook Cover—I opt for hand notes over digital notes, so a good notebook or 2024 agenda is always a lovely gift or stocking stuffer.
