A Simplified Guide to Creating Bespoke Floral Arrangements at Home

Use Nature's Abundance as Your Guide

One of our favorite rules when it comes to floral arranging is letting nature’s view be your guide. More times than not, you can simply look outside and start arranging with that in mind—in fact, foraging is one of our go-to tricks for bringing the best of the season inside. For Jenni, this often means looking in her backyard and letting the scene inspire her.

If you’re not sure which note to take from your surroundings, try keeping it simple and earthy with varietals such as sage, lavender, oak, olive, rosemary, and thyme. Classic and enduring, these finds will always elevate a space without feeling overpowering—and they’ll instantly dress up a tablescape.

Curate the Season with Intention

When it comes to spring flower arrangements—and florals for spring in general—it’s important to feel in sync with the notions of the season. This time of year, there is plenty of space for a bouquet that feels celebratory yet timeless, and it’s all about finding the right mix to pull it all off.

A few of our favorite spring-forward flowers blend the notions of the season with an evergreen sensibility: feverfew daisies are classic florals with a simple and spring look, snowmaiden scabiosa add texture and intrigue, Iceland poppies bring in a pop of color, and daffodils epitomize the pinnacle of spring. Try all of these together or alone for a floral scene unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

Allow Simplicity to Shine

One of the building blocks of florals is to have an eye for simplicity. You don’t have to create an intricate arrangement for your space to feel special and seasonal. In fact, some of our favorite floral moments are those that rely on the basics. Add a smaller ceramic vase on a table with flowers of different shades and sizes, or even place a single vase (like our Leather Rivet Vase) with quince branches in it for a tabletop moment that draws the eye.

If you’re wanting to supplement an arrangement with something a bit more demure, add in wild carrot flower, otherwise known as Queen Anne’s lace—our favorite neutral flower that always elevates any type of arrangement. Plus, it also looks great alone when placed in bud vases across a tabletop.
